Macky Auditorium/ Concert Hall Renovation

Project Summary:

Complete architectural and interior design services, including feasibility study and programming. Renovation of an historic 2,500-seat, 31,487 square foot auditorium and support space into a comfortable, aesthetically pleasing hall of acoustical excellence. Building also included 32,593 square feet of classrooms, offices and support facilities for the College of Mass Communication and Journalism. Project involved modifications of floor levels to improve sightlines and seat spacing, addition of opera boxes and control booth, restoration of ornate plaster and painting, technical theatrical equipment, sound and theatrical lighting systems. Macky Auditorium is on the National Register of Historic Places, and all modifications were in compliance with Secretary of the Interior guidelines.

Honor Award for Excellence in Design, Western Mountain Region AIA, 1989. Design Merit Award, Colorado North Chapter AIA, 1987. Design Honor Award, Denver Chapter AIA, 1987. Preservation in Action, in recognition of accomplishment in historic preservation, Historic Boulder, 1987.
